Memorial Day is more than a three-day sleep-in pass from work, or a chance to cook out, go fishing or party.  It's not a day to be for YOU to selfishly spend it how YOU want to.  It is a day to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for YOU.

  You can do YOUR part:

  • by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
  • by visiting memorials.
  • by flying the US Flag at half-staff until noon.
  • by flying the 'POW/MIA Flag' as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act).
  • by participating in a "National Moment of Remembrance": at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.
  • by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our fallen dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.  [READ MORE]

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.  When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.  Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.

At 12:15 p.m. on October 12 , 2000 the  USS Cole (DDG 67) fell victim to an act of terrorism which took from us 17 men and women, injuring 30 others aboard the USS Cole.  Our hearts go out to the families and shipmates of these patriots taken from us, and it is our prayer that the crew members injured in this horrific attack find there way back to health quickly.
